The Draft Society / Pickup Timing Study

Where the advice splits

It depends
what you need

"Should I snipe?" has four different answers. Goalkeepers barely rotate, so you can claim one days early and be nearly certain. Forwards rotate constantly, and that is exactly where waiting for the team sheet earns its keep.

Start rate by position

The gap between a blind claim and an informed one is a forward problem above all. Half of all forwards claimed on waivers never started.

What to do with this

Goalkeepers are the best blind add in the game — they start about nine times in ten, so there is nothing to wait for. Claim early and spend the lineup window elsewhere.
Forwards are the worst blind add and the best snipe. A waiver forward is close to a coin flip on whether he even plays.
Defenders produced the single best cell in the study when sniped. Clean sheets and the defensive categories reward a confirmed starter more than anything else on the pitch.
